tiles
the sense of impotence and frustration caused by the unmotivated slowness of the renovation work pushed me to try to do something, to accelerate, to push the work. so I started designing tiles. the passion for the intertwined geometries of majolica was born following trips to morocco. they combine many unrelated fantasies between floors, walls, pillars, columns, reliefs, ceilings and fabrics. a kind of random visual meditation, a prayer, a psychedelic kaleidoscope on levels that infiltrates the psyche and brings order to thought.
i thought of reworking the geometric themes of typical mediterranean majolica using my medium, photography. the idea is to create symmetrical modular geometries, often forcing the images on multiple axes of symmetry. this way you get a double reading plane,
from afar you appreciate the color and geometry, up close the photography plays on planes, perspectives, objects, subjects and emotions. in this book on the left the tile in real 20x20 format, on the right the overall effect of the texture. In person, in reality the two things happen simultaneously, as a "background figure" in the gestalt.
all the subjects would lend themselves to being printed without joints, on fabrics or wallpapers, but I think it would be appropriate to develop on larger rectangular modules.
